Our best tips for a really great coloring session

Whether you just need a little break from scrolling, a break from the everyday rush, or you want to spend several hours exploring your own creativity, coloring is one of the best activities we know of for calming the nervous system. Why? Yes, because it's so low-threshold that it requires little effort from you while providing a real sense of accomplishment. Good combo? Absolutely!

When it comes to the actual coloring process, we have made some experiences that make coloring even better, and we want to share these experiences with you!

Choose the right type of tool
  • Colored pencils: Provide good control, smooth transitions and a classic look. Use pencils with a wax or oil-based core (e.g. Prismacolor, Faber-Castell or Lyra).
  • Markers: Gives strong, even colors, but be aware that they will bleed through the paper. Alcohol-based markers (like Copic or Ohuhu) give a professional result, but must be used on very thick paper. Our coloring book has thick enough paper that you can draw with markers, but we still recommend coloring with gentle pressure to reduce bleeding. Unfortunately, this is always something to be expected.
  • Watercolor pencils: Gives an artistic look – you can color dry and then use a damp brush to “paint out” the color. This is a winner for us and we love the look that watercolor pencils give!

Place a sheet of paper under the page you are coloring.
  • This is especially important if you use a marker or press hard with a pencil. An extra sheet protects the next page from marks, smudging and color leakage. In our coloring book you will find a completely white sheet at the back of the book that you can cut out and use for just this.
Work in layers with colors
  • Always start with light tones first, and gradually build up to darker shades.

  • Use small circular movements to achieve smooth transitions.

  • Feel free to mix two colors by going over the edge with both, it gives more depth.

Ensure good lighting and a proper work surface
  • Coloring requires a certain degree of precision, so use natural light or a good daylight lamp if you are working on a masterpiece. (If you still choose to color a little haphazardly in dim light, we support you 100%!! After all, it should be possible to sit in front of the fireplace too)

  • Avoid uneven surfaces – a hard, stable surface provides better control.

Protect, preserve and <3 share <3 the finished result
  • If you use marker: let everything dry thoroughly before turning pages or folding the pages together. Be especially careful that your hand may smudge some of the color...

  • Store drawings flat and dry to preserve the paper and colors.

  • Last but not least: don't let your drawings gather dust in a book! Cut or tear them out of the coloring book, hang them on the wall or use them as the cover of a birthday card for a friend. Nothing is cozier than a card with a personal touch :)

With that said, we hope you enjoy this coloring book as much as we do <3 Bring back the off screen era, Interlude out.
